Each visit to Puerto Rico brings a sense of longing, as I feel an unfulfilled connection. My grandparents were born in Aibonito and Mocha before moving to New York's Lower East Side, where they raised my mother and her siblings. In her later years, my grandmother reminisced about Puerto Rico, dreaming of reuniting with her sisters, and despite her lived experience there, I share that sentiment.
Soñando con Puerto Rico is an intimate, layered exploration of memory, community, and cultural identity. The project takes the form of a visual love letter to Puerto Rico, rooted in my personal connection to the island and the Carolina, Aibonito, and Mocha communities.
